Hey all!
Just a shout out from the desks of Murphy Beach Studio and crew
who
are in full recovery from the 2006 Wizard World Comic Con in
Chicago, Aug 3rd-6th!
For those who just *don't know*, its a celebration of
comics and all
comics related items (then again, Spike TV showed up as a 2nd
cousin in the family I guess )..
Geeks, nerds, and Goths unite to jump around and dig the vibe
of everything from movies,
video games, card-based games, wrestling, rapping, skateboarding,
and apparently a
few comics were in there.
Don't ask me who was wearing a costume and who wore their street
clothes
'cause it "just don't matter, y'all!".

Beyond the toys, swords, and over priced hot dogs, you can actually
get to meet
tons of Celebs of all media..Yes, a few dealers in comix were
around as well.
If WizWorld's site actually works, you may see it
here..
The crew in Artist Alley this year were:
me - Brendan Herrick (Artist\writer and founder of Murphy Beach
Studio),
Erik Gross (ShamRox writer),
and Chris Hooper - pronounced "Hoopker" according to Wizard World
badge makers
- (eraser-er asst. for Cousin Joey).

Highlights of the con:
- Meeting Michael Peters..Standing in line with the glaring
and talented
guy influenced by Barry Windsor-Smith. Look for his stuff coming
out in
Heavy Metal this November! mlpeters.com
- Meeting and chatting with Andy "Braz" Brase - Up and
coming, incredibly patient,
Micron pen master, who deserves his stuff in black and white
just to awe people (hey, folks - originals go for $2,000-$4,000
a page
and if you see in person, it's amazing).
Nice guy from Des Moines! Don't be surprised if MY inking changes
after studying this!
Japanese
Forum featuring his work.
- The interview from Joliet local-access channel 6 cult icon
- Count Midnight.
Interviewed me on Sarsparilla - get it while it's hot. I'm sure
the people up at 3am
Sunday morning will just *rush* to ComixPress.com to buy it! ;-)
Nice guy..Been doing this for 10yrs, I guess..
CountMidnight.com
- Mystery Underground aficionado who swears Field's Collectibles:
The Collected
is VERY similar to Frank Stack's work from the 60's.
Swear it ain't him, folks - but check out his Adventures of Jesus
sometime
(def not the "Bible" version).
This guy is serious too. I mean, who actually has original art
and a
sketch page from Robert Crumb?!
I was privy to actually see it first person.
Crumb original's right to the table plus he bought 1 of everything.
Bless you, brother - where ever you are!
- Howard Miller, Wiz World staffer who gave me (the)
biz regarding
the convention sketch for his "Tazmanian Wolf in tighty whities"..
(You were thinking "devil" weren't you! ;-)..
Good luck, Howard, and now we *really* look forward to that pic
showing on a "perverted" site..
Shameless promotion..?! By whom?! *sigh*
Shout outs to:
- Lewis Helfand of WastedMinute.com who was our patient
neighbor.
Good luck finding him at any future cons (except Philly) 'cause
he now realizes his friends are right
and that Comic cons are for FREAKS! Way to go Chi-ca-go! (We love
ya').
- The late 20's nerds who were giddy about the "guys sleeping
in their basements
getting busted for trying to steal 5 portable DvDs".
It was probably the robin-blue spandex Power Ranger suit that
made it so believable.
You had us rolling when you were addressing Lewis.
- All the chix who flaunted cleavage of all sorts in all ways
in
all sizes and shapes and ages.
More power to ya. (Beavis: "Nyahh! Nyahh! Cool! Cool!")

- Jeremy Adolphson of http://www.4x6-art.com for the commission
and honor of being
with such talents in his collection!
(He collects original art work on 4x6 inch sheets from a HUGE
variety of artists).
His site explains more.
All comix available are posted on the site - check 'em out
for more\ordering info.

Take care and God bless! More to come from MBS soon!
